The Stranger by Albert Camus
1 . Meursault is locked into the routine of daily existence; his life is a shapeless emptiness without ideas, preferences, desired goals, or feelings. Like a robotic, Meursault responds to every thing automatically, neither feeling neither caring. If he is offered a career transfer to Paris, Meursault says this individual does not care in which he works; yet he will not go mainly because moving would be too much problems. His mom's death has been reached with comparable lack of response: he feels no give up hope or suffering. Occasionally, Meursault lacks determination to do anything, and so he usually spends the day seated at his bedroom windowpane, smoking cigarettes even more out of habit than desire. Though Meursault is essentially unaffected by the world around him, his isolation does not stem by a conscious intention to withdraw. He merely drifts along without purpose, by no means facing or even avoiding challenging. Life is not really worth the trouble of getting decisions, and Meursault remains to be committed to absolutely nothing. When he went to see his mother's cadaver at the residence, he smoked cigarettes in front of her corpse which usually shows his lack of treatment. " However felt like having a smoke nevertheless I hesitated, because I actually didn't understand if I can do it with maman in this article. I thought about it; it don't matter, I actually offered the caretaker a cigarette and that we smokedвЂќ. (Camus, 1988) 2 . Like Meursault, Marie enjoys physical contact. affection to get Meursault shows a deeper emotional add-on. Though Marie is disappointed when Meursault expresses his view toward love and marriage, she does not end the relationship or perhaps reconsider her desire to marry him.
