The culture of Indonesia has recently been shaped simply by long interaction between original indigenous persuits and multiple foreign impacts.  Indonesia is centrally-located along ancient trading routes between the Far East,  South Asia and the Middle East, leading to many ethnic practices getting strongly motivated by a wide range of religions, including Hinduism,  Buddhism,  Confucianism,  Islam and Christianity, most strong in the major trading cities. In this way a complex cultural mixture very different from the initial indigenous cultures. Examples of cultural fusion are the fusion of Islam with Hindu in Javanese Abangan belief, the fusion of Hinduism, Buddhism and animism inBodha, and the fusion of Hinduism and animism in Kaharingan; others could be cited. Balinese dances have got stories about ancient Buddhist and Hindu kingdoms, while Islamic art forms and structures are present in Sumatra, particularly in the Minangkabau and Aceh regions. Classic art, music and sport are combined in a martial art form called Pencak Silat. European culture has significantly influenced Dalam negri in technology, technology and modern entertainment such as television shows, film and music, and also political program and issues.  India has remarkably influenced Indonesian songs and films. A popular sort of song may be the Indian-rhythmical dangdut, which can be often blended with Arab and Malay folk music. Despite the affects of overseas culture, a lot of remote Indonesian regions continue to preserve distinctively indigenous lifestyle. Indigenous ethnic groupsMentawai,  Asmat,  Dani,  Dayak,  Toraja and many others continue to be practicing their particular ethnic rituals, customs and wearing classic clothes. Items

Philippines is home to different styles of music, with these from the islands of Java,  Sumatra and Bali being frequently documented. The traditional music of central and East Java and Bali is the gamelan. Upon June 30, 1965,  Koes Plus, a respected Indonesian pop group in the sixties, 1970s and 1980s, was imprisoned in Glodok,  West Jakarta, for playing Western-style music. After the resignation of Leader Sukarno, what the law states was rescinded, and in the 1970s the Glodok penitentiary was dismantled and replace by a large retail complex. Kroncong is a musical genre that uses guitars and ukulele as the main musical instruments. This genre had its origins in Portugal and was introduced by simply Portuguese investors in the fifteenth century. There exists a traditional Keroncong Tugu music group in North Jakarta and other classic Keroncong music groups in Maluku, with strong Portuguese influences. This music genre was well-known in the 1st half of the 20th century; a up to date form of Kroncong is called Put Kroncong. Angklung musical orchestra, local of West Java, received international recognition as UNESCO has listed the traditional West Java musical instrument produced from bamboo within the list of intangible cultural traditions.[1][2] The soft Sasando music in the province of East Nusa Tenggara in West Timor is very different.
